With the permission of past recipients, this page is devoted to past winners of our scholarship. Starting in 2009, under the supervision of Tyler Barnes, scholarship applications were collected and reviewed based on academic criteria, financial need, community involvement, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, and writing skills. A majority of applicants come from neighboring high schools in Mercer County (NJ) but are gradually spreading to other states. Although our organization is based in Trenton, NJ, applications and inquires have come from states such as Indiana, Mississippi, and even Hawaii. We are honored and excited to receive applications from different areas.

Once applications are received, applicant demographics are stored on a safe database to chart addresses for networking, high school and prospective colleges and university locations, and graduation years. Applications are carefully reviewed by the committee and run past the president of the organization. Between 2009-2011, two applicants a year were chosen to receive a $1,000 scholarship. This was later downsized to three, $500 scholarships in 2013 based on the economy. Several $250 book awards were also presented in 2010 and 2011 to members of the debutantes and participants of the gentlemen’s ball. Recipients now receive a personal check in the correct award amount so they can use it on whatever college related expenses they choose (books, dorm supplies, travel, etc.) This check and a small award are usually presented at the student’s senior awards night (the annual Linen Affair 2008-2010). Tyler Barnes says, “I really do enjoy reading all the applications we receive. These teenagers go through a lot having to balance the stresses of breast cancer in their families with school, sports, work, and filling out college applications. It’s also eerie at time how similar these stories are to that of me and my younger sister. They are always so gracious and thankful when we meet them during awards night.” Our organization plans to continue giving out these awards annually for as long as we possibly can
