The Story

Tracey C. Barnes Scholarship Fund

The Tracey C. Barnes Scholarship Fund Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2006 in memory of the late Tracey C. Barnes. Tracey was a devoted wife, mother, Licensed Practical Nurse, and a cherished friend to many. She passed away in January 2006 at the age of 44 due to breast cancer, leaving behind her husband, four daughters, three grandchildren, and a close-knit community of friends and family.

In 2016, Tracey’s oldest daughter, Tiara C. Barnes, also succumbed to breast cancer at the age of 37, leaving behind her husband and two children.

While Tracey and Tiara, along with Tracey’s surviving daughters, underwent BRCA genetic testing with negative results, it is evident that a genetic predisposition exists, though an unidentified factor may be at play. This highlights the complexity of breast cancer, particularly among Black women, where insufficient research exists on contributing factors such as generational stress and environmental influences. Early detection remains crucial in the fight against this disease.

Jimmy Barnes

The Tracey C. Barnes Scholarship Fund was created in the beloved memory of my wife Tracey C. Barnes who passed away from Breast Cancer in 2006.

Breast Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in women and slowly showing up in men.
The mission of the TCBSF is to educate the community about this deadly disease and to provide scholarships to students seeking to further their education.

To accomplish this we are asking for your help and support.
